THE READ: 6+ Parenting Styles You Should Know About 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 📝 🛝

Back in the 1960s, a psychologist named Diana Baumrind identified three main parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative and permissive. A fourth style—neglectful—was added in the ‘80s. We rarely hear about parenting styles by these clinical names anymore, but all of the trending parent archetypes we know fit into these buckets. Keep reading for some of the common parenting styles you’ll most definitely come across in the playground.

🚁 Helicopter parents monitor their child’s every move. Though the parent’s behaviour comes from a desire for their child to be safe and successful, it can backfire and make kids feel smothered.

💡 Lighthouse parents aim to be a beacon (hence the name!) of support and guidance while also giving kids the freedom to navigate their own paths and make their own decisions.

🐯 Tiger parents are infamous. They are extremely invested in the success of their kids, setting high standards and strict routines. Kids raised by tiger parents are pushed to excel academically and in high-status extracurriculars.
